Employees of Starlight Programs should be seeing big changes by the end of the year.
Superintendent John Hill met with the Muskingum County Commissioners on Thursday to discuss insurance options. Hill said employees are currently covered by insurance offered through the county, but Starlight Programs is searching for its own insurance provider.
"We have an array of Starlight staff, from transportation to maintenance to school workshop service coordinators, and recent changes in coverage for part-time folks have really impacted our bus drivers, who only work about four hours a day," said Hill.
Hill said the commissioners brought the idea to his attention in the fall, and Thursday was the first step in finding an insurance provider that can fit the unique needs of Starlight Programs. He said a committee has been organized to review the details and ultimately select the new provider.
"We will contact insurance vendors and have them provide proposals to us," said Hill. "We’ll look those over, see what they provide, what they don’t provide and then make a decision on which way to go."
Hill said he’s unsure of the timeline, but he expects it to be a minimum of three to four months before the process is underway. Until then, employees will still be covered through the county.
