by Carolyn Fleegle on January 20, 2012

Police in Newark are alerting the public of the escape of a wolf hybrid.

Chief Steven Sarver says the wolf was reported missing Friday  morning after it escaped from its owner in the area of Oakwood Avenue and the State Route 16/79 overpass around 9 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities say the animal is considered exotic and its aggression level is not known.

Police officers and Newark’s animal control officer have searched the area but have not been able to locate the animal.

If anyone sees the animal you should avoid contact and call your local law enforcement agency or Newark police at (740)670-7200.
