The plain white walls of Zanesville City Hall are bursting with color thanks to a new art exhibit.

Owner of Gallery G Bob Grayson said Mayor Jeff Tilton asked him to organize a display that showcases the work of emerging artists.  Grayson said he’s collaborating with area schools to fill city hall with the art of elementary school kids through college students.

"We know that when children and young people are involved, the families follow, and it makes a very strong statement to families that this is an important part of their lives," said Grayson.

Ohio University Zanesville student John Hanifan said Grayson inspired him to become an art major and introduced him to several well-known artists in Zanesville.  Hanifan said it’s an honor to hang his own artwork on the walls of city hall.

"It’s an important part of my life because I can express myself through my art and communicate what I’m feeling to other people," said Hanifan.

Grayson said the pieces will rotate on a monthly basis to give all emerging artists an opportunity to show off their talent.  Mayor Tilton will be at city hall from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday to present the exhibit to the community.
