County Home Under Review

An architect consultant is reviewing the Muskingum County Home facility.

Rick Brown met with the county commissioners on Thursday to discuss the options regarding the certification process.

"The county home runs a nursing home effectively without licensure, just by statute," said Brown.  "To apply for certification puts them under different regulations for reimbursement for Medicare and Medicaid, which is a different source of funding, and there are different regulations that have to be met by the facility in order to be certifiable."

Brown said that because the building was used as a nursing home before, only a few changes are needed for it to qualify.  It’s possible that the commissioners will decide to sell the beds, but several factors are involved in that decision.

"You have the residents you’re serving, and then you have the people who take care of them, and there are certain formulas for the number of people and the quality, the education that they have, and the number per resident is all mandated by certification," said Brown.

Brown said the wellbeing of the patients is the top priority.
