Girl Scouts to Send Cookies to Troops

A girl scout’s good deed is going a long way.

Seven-year-old Julia Gantzer wanted to do something special for our men and women serving overseas in Afghanistan.  Her mother Sarah said Julia asked her girl scout troop to raise enough money for 100 boxes of cookies, but then she had another idea.

"I wanted to talk to the pawn stars," said Julia.

Julia wrote a letter to the television show "Pawn Stars", and the cast agreed to donate $2,000 to the cause, which will buy about 600 boxes of cookies.

"In my daughter’s kindergarten class, there’s a little girl whose mother has been away for a year in Afghanistan, and it’s easy to forget when you’re not faced with the reality that every day there are people over there that are away from their families for a really long time, so I think everybody needs to remember these guys and what they’re doing for us and for our country," said Sarah.

Sarah said the girls are also making cards to put in the care packages, and the troop is working on a way to ship all of the boxes to Afghanistan.
