A big crowd turned out for a flag raising ceremony at the new American Pride Power Equipment facility on McIntire Ave.
The event served as a grand opening event for the newly constructed facility.
The flag measures thirty by sixty feet , and sits atop a 140- foot pole, making it the largest flag in Muskingum County.
Retired Master Sergeant Dick Bowers said the flag will serve as an icon for everyone who sees it.
"Everyone that comes up and down the expressway, it will definitely draw their attention, and it will say something about Zanesville; that it appreciates the American Flag, and that it also appreciates its veterans," said Bowers.
Bowers and members of the Marine Corps were on hand to raise the flag.
American Pride president, Ryan Dodson, said that the ceremony itself was a community event.
"I know that when I drive through other areas that have a huge flag, it’s just a special feeling that you get. I’m honored to create that feeling for everybody that drives through on I-70," said Dodson.
And like every great ceremony, there was one slight hitch.
Following the event, the flag had to be lowered to fix a tangle in the guide wire.
The flag was then immediately raised back to the top of the pole.
