A highly contagious stomach virus is making its rounds in Licking County.

The Health Department is reporting two Norovirus outbreaks.

The first outbreak happened on the Denison University campus. Officials say a total of 36 students and 2 staff members were affected by the stomach bug.

The second outbreak involved an event at the Bryn Du Mansion in Granville. A total of 41 individuals became ill as a result of the outbreak.

Licking County Health Commissioner Joe Ebel says Norovirus is the leading cause of food borne disease outbreaks.

It is easily spread from person to person. Symptoms of the virus include vomiting, nausea and diarrhea.

Most people recover from the virus within one to two days.
