An organization is recognizing the selflessness of the community…

Sunday afternoon, Operation Spirit held a potluck dinner to thank people for supporting our troops. Director Melodie Pittman invited Staff Sergeant Tim Mahon, and she said it was great to see someone who benefited from the organization.

"He’s become, you know, he became family when he was in Bagram, and it’s just amazing because he’s a hometown hero. And we don’t get a lot of… you know, to see us and hang out with us," said Pittman.

Some of the attendees received Presidential Community Service Awards for their volunteer work. Pittman said she’s impressed with the community and its willingness to contribute.

"Like, a little girl who had a lemonade stand and brought me like 21 dollars in change in a baggy for the troops. You know, things like that, you know. It’s just amazing, it really is. I know I keep saying that, but how else do you…I’m blessed."

Operation Spirit is always looking for new volunteers. For more information, visit the organization’s website.
