School and Snow

Winter weather slows down the morning commute.

Snow started falling around Southeastern Ohio around 6:30a.m. Wednesday morning, causing cars to slip and slide along the roadways. Since the winter system hit later in the morning many school buses were already out on the roadways.

"We didn’t have any problems whatsoever," said Coordinator of Operations Kevin Appleman. "Sometimes when it snows or rains hard people panic a little bit, but we’re not going to put anyone in any serious situation. We’ll make sure everyone’s okay, but everything went fine."

Appleman said that the district pays close attention to the weather reports and if they feel a two hour delay is necessary they’ll take it. They also try to avoid dismissing early.

"We don’t send them home because we don’t want to send them home to an empty house," said Appleman. "We make sure we have a plan put together and we work with the city and we have a plan put together and we work with the city and we never had to let them out."

Zanesville City School grounds crews also get to the school building two hours before classes in order to clear parking lots and sidewalks.

Appleman said bus drivers know to take their time and if some students come in a little late that’s alright.
