Some of Zanesville’s best and brightest students were recognized by the Zanesville City Schools Board of Education.

Spelling bee winners, G.O.O.D. Award recipients, as well as players and coaches from the Zanesville High School Lady Blue Devils Soccer team were all recognized during a special meeting of the Board of Education.

School Board member Anne Hoffer said the Board is proud of the achievements of students in the district.

"It’s wonderful, we’re always proud of our students and it’s nice that we can get them to come to a board meeting, and be honored and show them how much we are appreciative and proud of our kids," said Hoffer.

Director of Student Services & Special Education Flora Martin presented the various awards to students in attendance at Monday’s meeting, and said recognizing students for their hard work is an important step in their academic progress.

"We feel that more praise and encouragement they can get, they know that we do believe in them, they will put forth the effort, so we’re proud of our kids," said Martin.

The Lady Blue Devils Soccer team received recognition for having a 3.987 grade point average during the 2011-2012 season.
