An Interim Treasurer was sworn in at the Muskingum County Courthouse Friday.
Carol Friel was sworn into office at 3:30 Friday afternoon.
Friel replaces Phil Murphy, who resigned Wednesday in a letter left after hours at the Commissioners office.
The Muskingum County Commissioners accepted Murphy’s resignation Thursday.
Friel said now that she has been sworn in, her top priority is to be more visible than her predecessor.
"I’m just excited about the position, and I will be seen in the community, and I’m very thankful that Senator Balderson was able to swear me in, and Commissioner Porter was able to hold the bible for me. It means a lot," said Friel.
Friel said she will be making trips around the county to meet with township trustees.
The Interim Treasurer also plans on going after those who are delinquent in paying their taxes.
"I want to make sure that we continue to dig into recovering delinquent taxes. i think that’s money that we can get, and It’s owed to us, so I think it’s important that we work hard to do what we can to recover our delinquent taxes," added Friel.
Commissioners told WHIZ News Wednesday that former Treasurer Murphy would not show up for scheduled meetings, and also failed to transfer investment funds out of a non interest-bearing account.
