***Update****  I-70 Is open to Traffic Thursday Morning****

Traffic on Interstate 70 westbound in Washington Township was brought to a standstill Wednesday after a semi carrying candy caught fire.

It happened around 8:45 near the Airport exit. The semi driver, Kerry Nottingham, says it all unfolded quickly.

"I was just riding along and there was a big pop, and then after the pop I heard sizzling and then fire just come up out of the dashboard and went all across the windshield. By the time I got the truck off on the shoulder and jumped out the entire interior on the roof was on fire," says Nottingham.

The fully engulfed semi was quite a sight for other drivers on the interstate.

"There was actually a guy broke down behind me, he’s still down there with his flashers on. He was parked way up here and when the truck kind of engulfed he backed up real far," Nottingham says.

Troopers say Nottingham was taken to the hospital with some minor injuries.

Washington Township, Perry Township and New Concord Fire Departments responded to the fire.  Traffic on Interstate 70 westbound is still shutdown at this hour.
