The Zanesville Fire Department is honoring one of its own.
Lieutenant Jeff Jadwin is retiring after nearly 21 years on the job. Jadwin said it’s tough to leave his firefighter family, but after undergoing open heart surgery seven months ago, he said now is the time.
"There’s a lot of moments that are memorable, so to pick out one would be tough, because it’s a very rewarding career to serve the citizens and try to save lives and property," said Jadwin.
Jadwin will continue to work at the Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency, which he said will ease the transition into retirement.
"I want to spend a lot time with my grandchildren," said Jadwin. "I have one little girl now and one on the way, so I’ll just enjoy life."
Jadwin’s son is following his father’s footsteps. He starts training at the Zanesville Fire Department this weekend.
