A multi-vehicle crash sends one person to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

Highway Patrol Trooper Stephen Williams said one woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries following a three-vehicle accident on state route 146 past the Dillon Scenic Overlook.

"ODOT was doing construction on the side of the road, it was restricted to one lane.  We had a purple Grand AM, and a silver Chevy Impala stopped in traffic westbound on state route 146.  A red Jeep Liberty came up behind those two vehicles, and struck them when they were stopped," said Williams.

Traffic on 146 was backed up for miles while wreckers removed the mangled cars.

Trooper Williams said this accident, like most that he sees, was caused by a distracted driver.

"This was a direct result of failure to pay attention in the vehicle. Distracted driving, that’s one of the main causes in traffic accidents, an that’s being distracted by anything in the car. In this case it was the dash," added Williams.

The driver of the Jeep was cited with failure to assure a safe distance.
