High School Boys Basketball:

Division IV Regional Semi-Final at Ohio Dominican University:

Newark Catholic 38 Columbus Africentric 54

The Green Wave just couldn’t overcome a balanced Nubian attack on Tuesday night.  After falling behind 10-5 after one quarter, Newark Catholic exploded for 16 points in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 22-21 at the half.  A Jett Speelman three-pointer to open the second half gave them their first lead of the game, but Africentric continued to battle, eventually taking a 35-32 lead into the final quarter.  The Nubians took control in the fourth, outscoring the Green Wave 19-6 en route to the victory.

Hosie Smith led all scorers with 19 points for Africentric, who had nine players score, in the win.  Jett Speelman and David Meurer led Newark Catholic with 13 and 12 points respectively in the loss.  With the loss, the Green Wave finish their season 21-4.
