Members of the public got to take an in-depth tour of the newest Genesis Healthcare facility on Tuesday.

The Breast Care Center has been open since February but this afternoon visitors got to speak with doctors, and nurses who work in the center.

Director of Genesis Cancer Services Sharon Parker said the new facility houses most of the breast cancer treatment tools in one place.

"What we’re really looking for is a centralized area for all women to come to, and already in the HealthPlex is all of our breast imaging, so once a woman comes in and is screened, if there’s an abnormality found, as they come back for additional images and additional work up," said Parker.

The new center features a Women’s Boutique full of wigs, and prosthetic devices.
Parker said while many of the patients who utilize the breast center are Women, but mentioned they do see a small percentage of men come through the door.

"About one percent of men can get breast cancer, and I have to say that as we were designing it, we were trying to be very mindful of that one percent of men that may come through, and while it is probably a little bit more of a feminine touch by all means, we’ve actually had a couple of men who have come through, and they seem to be very comfortable," Added Parker.

Nurses and other medical officials wore pink in honor of Tuesday’s open house.
