Volunteers fired up the grills and flipped pancakes for a good cause…

The Muskingum Valley chapter of the American Red Cross held a breakfast fundraiser at the Applebee’s restaurant on Maple Avenue on Saturday. Development Director Troy Alford said he was optimistic from the start.

"We’ve had a great turnout. The community has stepped forward, came…As always, and we’ve definitely exceeded more than we wanted today, so, everything’s looking really good," said Alford.

All of the money will go toward the disaster relief fund. Alford said with the year they’ve had so far, the Red Cross needs all the help it can get.

"We’ve had 40 fires this year in the five counties that we serve. So,we are here today to help rebuild the money that we’ve used in our programs… We were hoping to get a thousand. Looks like we might hit 14 or 15 hundred. So, thanks to the community, and thanks for Applebee’s."

The organization surpassed its goal by raising just over 2,200 dollars.
