The rising cost of college can be stressful for students, but scholarships can help lower the price tag.
Century National Bank and Kincaid, Taylor and Geyer are accepting applications for the J. Donald Kincaid and Julianne Kincaid Educational Trust. Jody Spencer of Century National Bank said the trust is made possible through a generous donation from the late Kincaids, who had deep roots in the Muskingum County community.
"It’s an $8 million trust fund that Don and Julianne left for the students in Muskingum County," said Spencer. "The only requirement is that you must be a graduate of a Muskingum County high school."
Funds totaling $344,000 will be available in 2012, making this one of the largest educational trusts in the area. Spencer said there’s no limit to the number of students who can be awarded a scholarship.
"What’s really nice about this is that many scholarship funds require a certain GPA level or a major in a particular curriculum, but in this case, Don Kincaid purposely designed this trust so that the committee would have great flexibility, and it would be able to be applied to as many students in the county as possible," said Spencer.
Applications are available at Century National Bank’s main office on Fifth Street and the office of Kincaid, Taylor and Geyer on Fourth Street in downtown Zanesville. The deadline to apply for a scholarship is May 1st.
