Dillon Lake will play host to its first large-scale rowing event this weekend.

The Mid-West Rowing Association is bringing its regatta to Dillon State Park on Saturday.

The event will feature over 500 high school rowers and coaches from 3 states.

Kelly Ashby of the Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce is excited, as the event is expected to bring in tourism dollars from out-of-state.

"It’s a great economic boom to the area. They certainly will leave dollars behind, so it’s a great economic impact on Muskingum County," said Ashby.

The public is encouraged to attend the free regatta from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The course is over a mile long, and Ashby said she is expecting nearly 1,000 people to come out to the lake.

"We will be providing visitor guides and materials for them ahead of time, and also for future events, so that they will know what there is to see and do in the area this spring, summer, winter, whenever they would like to travel back to the area as well," added Ashby.

The Chamber of Commerce is working with the Mid-West Rowing Association to secure Dillon Lake for its 2013 Rowing Championships.
