It was a night of networking and entertainment at Ohio University Zanesville.

The Association of University Regional Campuses of Ohio is sponsoring a conference to highlight the best practices among regional campus faculty.  Academic Division Coordinator Sheida Shirvani said the music and artwork of students and faculty were on display.

"We would like to show how artistic and creative our students and staff are," said Shirvani.  "They are taking these classes together here.  As far as music, we are showing our own staff as well as colleagues who are in the same area.  We don’t know what they do outside of the classroom, so they’re showing their artistic work."

Associate Professor of English Mike Nern and student Nick Emmert performed the opening acts.  Shirvani said she has been planning the conference for months.

"It seems like the end of the tunnel, and it’s really exciting to see that people from all over Ohio are coming here to share that," said Shirvani.

The conference will continue on Saturday with more than 70 faculty members in attendance for presentations and workshops.
