Locally, some drivers are voicing their opinions on the possible texting while driving ban…

If House Bill 99 is passed, law enforcement in the state of Ohio will begin cracking down on drivers who are using their cell phones while operating vehicles. Zanesville resident Jenna Strickler thinks it could be a good idea.

"Everybody texts and drive. I mean, you can’t say you don’t, everybody does it. And that’s probably one of the number one causes of our wrecks that we have every day, is from texting…Not paying attention to the road. My friends always text and drive, and I’m always like ‘put your phone away, put your phone away!,’ and stuff because they’re, swerving off the road and and you have to drive for them and it’s just a mess," said Strickler.

Resident Daniel Eckles also supports the ban, but he said it won’t change driving habits any time soon.

"Personally, I don’t think anyone’s going to pay attention to it if happens. So, regardless of whether there’s a ban or not, I really don’t believe it’s going to have any say as to whether people text or not," said Eckles.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, over 31,000 crashes in Ohio were caused from texting while driving within the last two years.
