The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a series of seminars exploring business assistance and development opportunities related to shale oil and gas.
Monday’s event at the John McIntire Library focused on job creation and government regulation as they pertain to energy. Member Services Director Dana Matz said this is the third meeting in the series, and it’s becoming increasingly important for businesses to devise a plan.
"As this oil and gas is moving westward to our community, I think business owners and employees are all trying to figure out how to best tap into the upcoming opportunities for their companies," said Matz.
Rebecca Heimlich of the American Petroleum Institute and Shawn Bennett of Energy in Depth were the featured speakers. Matz said the seminars have been well received by the public. About 75 to 100 people attended Monday’s meeting.
"We do ask the different businesses what meetings they’ve been to," said Matz. "We keep an eye on what companies have been to Zanesville, and we try to get the information out to the business people. That’s why we’ve changed the formats, and we’ll continue to do so."
