People in Zanesville took a trip back in time Sunday…

The Stone Academy is hosting a lecture series to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Sunday’s lecture focused on medical advancements since the war.

"There will be a carry-over between the things that were learned during the civil war, on the battlefield, to, not just people in Zanesville, but people all over the country. So, people locally were affected by these medical advances," said Jim Geyer, Director of the Pioneer and Historical Society.

Dr. Peter D’Onofrio was the keynote speaker at Sunday’s lecture. He said medicine has come a long way since the 1800’s.

"The advancements, particularly in transportation, we can even see today in Afghanistan and things like that. Instead of using horse-drawn ambulances, now they’re, you know, flying them out in helicopters and jet transports," said D’Onofrio.
