An area family is doing their part to support cancer research…
Kelli McVay and her family formed The Hope Pedalers, a team who rides in the Pelotonia bike race to raise money for the James Cancer Center in Columbus. For McVay and her family, the race is personal.
"It’s really a family effort, and it really goes back to my aunt Connie, who has more strength than any of us, who’s fighting this terrible disease, and there’s just so many people who get involved with the Pelotonia that we really wanted to see who could raise the most money this year," said McVay.
The Hope Pedalers are hosting the "Wine Mixer for Hope" at the Longaberger Golf Club, for anyone who wishes to donate to the cause. The race is at the end of summer, but McVay said she’s preparing herself now.
"I’m doing the 50 miles because I’m definitely a runner, not a biker, but when I look at those people that are in chemo, I think if they can go in and do all those chemo treatments, I think I can do 50 miles on the bike, but I’m definitely going to start needing, to start getting on that bike a little bit more before August."
The wine mixer takes place on May 12th from 7-11 p.m. For more information or to R.S.V.P., email email@example.com.
