Power has been restored in New Lexington after residents were left in the dark early this morning.

Officials at AEP Ohio said that an animal got caught in the transformer at a power station on North Main street.

The outage left several thousand customers without power, and some businesses were forced to close.

A manager at Kroger said the store suffered minor food losses as a result.

The outage also postponed the graduation ceremony at New Lexington High School.

AEP said a breaker problem caused delays, but the entire town had powered restored around 10:30 a.m.
