The boots of Zanesville Firefighters are filling up with funds to help fight Muscular Dystrophy.
Zanesville Fire Department Local 88 is spending time Friday collecting currency from traffic on Maple Avenue. The money raised goes to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The goal is to raise $15,000.
"People are just so wonderful," said Co-chair Gale Law. "I’m seeing a lot of bigger bills and people dumping all kinds of money in the boot. We’re going to do real well this year."
While the MDA supports research and other services it also supports 80 summer camps for kids at no cost to the family. It gives the kids a good time and the parents a break.
"We know that it helps give parents one week a year where they can breathe," explained Law. "Just going to the camp makes it so I want to do this. I’ll probably do this after I retire."
Saturday the firefighters will be at the intersection of Zane and Underwood collecting money from 10am-4pm
