A Cambridge man will spend more than four decades in prison for the murder of a 21-year-old.

Wednesday in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court, 45-year-old Michael Smith was sentenced to 41-years-to-life in prison. Smith was found guilty earlier this month of murder, attempted murder, felonious assault, grand theft and having weapons under disability.

Authorities say in March of 2011, Smith shot and killed Kyle Carter near the intersection of North 9th Street and Stewart Avenue. Cambridge Police say Smith got into a fight with Carter and a friend, as officers arrived on the scene Smith fired a handgun from his porch hitting Carter in the chest.
