H.S. Baseball:

Division IV Regional Final at Beavers Field:

Hiland 5 Newark Catholic 4 F/9

In a game that went back and forth it was the Hawks who got the big plays when they needed them the most to advance to Huntington Park and claim a regional title. The Hawks were able to capitalize on a clutch hit from Jeremy Schlabaugh and score the game winning run in the top of the ninth to end Newark Catholic’s streak of three straight regional titles.

Hiland had the lead three times in the game before they were able to finally close out the Geen Wave in the extra frames. The Hawks got two RBI from Dylan Kauffman who helped pace the Hiland attack. The Green Wave responded with two RBI from Chayce Crouch including the game tying single in the bottom of the seventh inning that sent the game into extra innings.

With the win Hiland heads to the state final four and in the process earned their first trip back to Columbus for the first time since 2008, which was also the last time Newark Catholic was eliminated in the regional tournament.
