Thousands of people in our area won’t go hungry thanks to the hard work of volunteers.
Operation Feed wrapped up its campaign with a celebration at the Salvation Army. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said food and monetary donations are collected to help those in need.
"We have 15 food pantries in the county, and we have two hot meal programs, so people can go into those pantries and receive help," said Lutz. "That’s how it’s done, and the food and money that we collect gets dispersed among those food pantries and hot meal programs."
Lutz said the campaign didn’t set a fundraising goal this year, but about 100,000 meals will be distributed. This is also the first year that the sheriff served as the chairman of Operation Feed.
"I knew we had a great community before this, but to see the generosity that comes out during this, it’s really unbelievable," said Lutz.
The Mid-Ohio Foodbank distributed over 40 million pounds of food last year.
