Community members are celebrating the life of a Zanesville teenager by ultimately helping others…
The Run4Grant 5K will be held on Saturday, June 2 to honor the memory of 14-year-old Grant Hickman, who passed away last year.
It will raise funds for the Grant Hickman Foundation. The idea came to the Hickman’s family friend Caren McCoy after speaking with Grant’s mother, Beth.
"We were just very worried that Grant would be forgotten, and this is just a wonderful opportunity to remember him and celebrate his life," said Beth.
"Myself and my family realized at that point that we wanted to establish something, an annual event, so everyone will celebrate Grant every year and remember Grant every year in a wonderful way," said McCoy.
All proceeds will support area schools by supplying any resources needed. Family friend Alainna Durfee said close to 100 people have registered for the 5K so far.
"Someone giving back and wanting to be a part of Grant’s celebration… Five dollars? I’m ecstatic. That gives you chills, because that’s what he would want and this is the kind of event that he would love. It’s a big party, and it’s a party in honor of him," said Durfee.
Registration forms can be picked up and dropped off at HoneyBaked ham, the Winerak and the Fieldhouse.
