Memorial Day is Monday, and the Frazeysburg community is coming together to honor past and current service men and women.
The VFW Wakatomika Post 6193 held its annual memorial service to pay respect to veterans. The post began the service by marching to the Frazeysburg Cemetery.
"When you see folks come out, and you see people stand up when the flag goes by, when you see people put their hand on their heart, it is a good thing to know that here we are in the middle of the country and people still remember, and they know how to pay respect," said veteran Eric Wasson.
The veterans usually travel from the town hall and make a stop at the Veterans’ Park to raise flags, but they had to change plans because of the heat. Organizers said a lot of people came out to show their support, despite the hot weather.
"Frazeysburg folks, the Jackson Township, north Muskingum county, has a real sense of patriotism and honor to our fallen heroes. All gave some and some gave all. And to all those that have served and all those that continue to serve, we thank you."
The Tri-Valley Middle School band played patriotic music during the memorial service.
