The Zanesville Alumni Association is making its preparations for Memorial Day.

The Alumni Association will host the first-ever Memorial Day Walk at Sulsberger Stadium to honor over three hundred fallen and wounded soldiers from as far back as World War II.

Zanesville Alumnus, and new Hall of Fame member, Brigadier General Michael McHenry said he is honored to take part in this inaugural ceremony.

"I’m excited and pumped about the Zanesville Alumni Association taking on this initiative to recognize those fallen comrades and veterans and family members and classmates who have left a mark in our life," said McHenry.

Registration begins at noon on Memorial Day, the cost is $10 to walk in memory of a fallen solider, and $5 for each person after that.

The proceeds benefit the Zanesville Scholarship Fund.

McHenry said the event shows the Y-Bridge City truly appreciates its war heroes, past and present.

"It says is that Zanesville recognizes what Memorial Day is all about and I’m just very fortunate to be apart of this whole planning and participating in this event," added McHenry.

A color guard will kick off the event and lead walkers around the track.

The event will also feature a balloon release, a 21 gun salute, as well as the taps and a bag piper.
