It was the perfect day for parents to let their kids play in the dirt…
Zemba Brothers held its 12th annual Family Field Day Saturday. Co-owner Chris Zemba said the inspiration came from another well-known company.
"Several years ago, my brothers and I went to an event that Caterpillar put on, their 50th anniversary, where you could, adults could get on and run equipment like this and we just, we always thought it would be nice if kids could get the opportunity to do that. So we started out with just the equipment, and then over the past 12 years it’s just grown into other events," said Zemba.
Participants were asked to bring canned goods in exchange for parking fees. Zemba said it’s all about keeping the community involved in the business.
"Our mission statement for today is to give kids the opportunity to do something they normally wouldn’t get a chance to do. So, you know, you can get in the pit a chase a pig, and ride an atv, you can watch a sawmill work, ride ponies…"
The field day benefits local organizations including Eastside Community Ministry and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
