2-1-1 Calls Up During May

The Southeast Ohio 2-1-1 call center saw an increase in calls during the month of May.

Manager Audrey Foster said the increase in calls coincides with the summer season.

Food still remains the top priority for those who call 2-1-1 and foster said during the summer, those supplies for some come up short.

"We had almost 370 people call in needing food assistance, either updating their pantry, or maybe need a pantry because of just running out of food that month or whatever. So food always remains at the top," said Foster.

With area schools out for summer, Foster said now is a good time to get a jump on supplies for the upcoming school year.

In addition, a summer food program is kicking off this month, and those who qualify have an opportunity to receive free lunches.

"It is a free program and they offer really great lunches, and we have a list of those areas that have that program available, not only in Muskingum County but Perry and Morgan County as well," added Foster.

If you are need of assistance, you can call 2-1-1 24 hours a day and Foster said all calls and inquiries are confidential.
