Authorities in Morgan County say a body discovered earlier this week has been identified as that of a recent shooting victim.

According to a press release from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified 36-year-old John Davis III through fingerprints and tattoos.

His body was found Wednesday at the edge of a creek near Bald Eagle Road in Windsor Township.

A preliminary autopsy report shows that Davis died of a single gunshot wound to the head and a bullet was recovered.

The Sheriff’s Office has filed murder charges against Timmy Stevens in connection with Davis’s death.

Authorties say last Tuesday Stevens shot Davis during an argument outside a home on North Riverview Road south of Malta. A 2 year-old child was also shot during the incident.

Stevens remains on the loose and should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (740)962-4044.
