Former patients of Genesis HealthCare gathered Sunday to celebrate their recovery.
The National Cancer Survivors Day Celebration was held outside of Genesis-Bethesda Hospital Sunday afternoon. Survivors came with their families and friends for some free food and entertainment.
"I think to see the smiles, just having a good time, for staff and many of our patients and families to reunite in a very joyous time has been great for everyone," said Director of Cancer Services Sharon Parker.
Survivors who attended ranged from one to 40 years of being cancer free. Terisa Plum is one of them. She’s celebrating seven years without colon cancer.
"It’s very uplifting. It’s very encouraging . It always gives you hope and faith because, you know, they’ve gone down this road a lot longer than we have. But it’s very inspiring," said Plum.
All survivors received photographs of themselves with their families as a gift for attending.
