Gardeners opened their gates to plant lovers for a special event today.

The garden tour was the finale of the two day event, Art In the Garden, held at the Zanesville Museum of Art.

Cindy Morehead is co-chair of the Beaux Arts Club, "Last night we had a wonderful gala here in the tent, sold out crowd and today we’re doing a tour of ten area gardens.Homeowners have been welcoming, they’ve opened up their garden gates and we have probably four-hundred and fifty to five hundred people touring the gardens today."

The tour included two public and eight private gardens that were opened to visitors by members of the arts club. The goal is to raise funds for the museum, and the idea stems from a mutual love of art and gardening.

"We just thought this would be an opportunity for something different in our area. We love art, we love the museum, we’re gardeners we know several homes who have beautiful gardens to show," said Morehead.

This is the first year for the gala, but organizers say they hope to make it an annual event.
