Escaping the Heat

Temperatures around our area prepare to soar during a summertime heat wave.

Over the next four days temperatures are set to move into the 90’s. One local organization is trying to help those suffering the heats affects by giving them a temporary place to cool down.

"We’re going to be providing water in our entryway that individuals can come in and have a glass of cold water and just sit down for a moment and get out of the heat," said Shelter Manager Karen Shelter.

The Salvation Army does offer a dinner Monday through Friday at 4:30p.m. for those looking to cool down and get a warm meal. They also work closely with other organizations in case of emergency.

"If they were a major that would happen over the next few days with the heat then we would work closely with the Red Cross and other organizations setting up a place where individuals can come in," said Walker.

Walker said they provide this service because they believe they should do whatever they can to help those in need.
