It’s been almost one year since the death of a 14-year-old Zanesville teen. On Saturday, hundreds of people honored the life and memory of Grant Hickman.
The Run 4 Grant 5K was held on the grounds of Zanesville High School. Runners and walkers donated money to participate. Those donations will be given to the Grant Hickman Foundation, which supports local schools. The 5K was organized by family friend Caren McCoy.
"We’ve had a thousand bottles of water donated by a 4-H group," said McCoy. "We’ve had food donations and monetary donations. We have over $15,000 that’s going to the Grant Hickman Foundation, and that will be used for districts in Muskingum County."
"It’s overwhelming," said Grant’s mother Beth Hickman. "It’s an emotional day. He would be very proud."
"It’s way more than we ever dreamed," said Grant’s father Bret Hickman. "Grant was more than we could have ever dreamed of."
Grant Hickman was found dead in July at 364 Taylor Street in Zanesville.
