Oil & Gas Coalition Looks to Aide Local Businesses

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce has a new initiative to help local businesses market their services to the oil and gas industry.

The Muskingum Oil and Gas Coalition was created last month and consists of about 30 businesses that will be networking their skills to different oil and gas companies working on the Marcellus and Utica shale projects.

Chamber of Commerce President Tom Poorman said he has already received a lot of interest from several companies.

"It’s becoming a major industry in this state or at least the eastern half of this state," said Poorman.  "There’s a lot of economic activity tasking place to the east, and northeast of us and so we want to help companies in this area market their products and services to that industry."

Poorman said he hopes to have over 100 businesses take part in the coalition.

With a strong marketing strategy in the works, he said the benefits will be well worth it.

"If it doesn’t boom here like it has in some places in Ohio and Pennsylvania, that’s ok, too and that makes out coalition that much more valuable because we know it is happening in Ohio so we want to reach out and we want to go beyond the borders of Muskingum County, help these companies get into the oil and gas industry across Ohio," added Poorman.

Those interested in joining the coalition are encouraged to contact the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce at (740) 455-8282 or online at www.zmchamber.co.
