The Zanesville Water Maintenance and Street departments will begin work on two projects within the next week resulting in the closure of some roads.

Zanesville Public Service Director Mike Sims said Water Maintenance crews will work to replace two water main valves on Maple Avenue.

South bound traffic will be reduced to one lane from Military Road to Country Club Drive and Country Club Drive will be closed from Fairway Lane to Maple Avenue.

Sims said the work will start Thursday evening at 10 p.m. and will re-open Friday morning at 7 a.m.

Residents along portions of Maple Avenue, Balls Lane and James Street will be without water during that time.

"We had the water main break on Maple. We’ve had some problems getting shut downs and we have two valves now that one is broken and leaking and the other one is broken and in the down position and they’re going to have to pull those and replace them," said Sims.

Monday morning the Water Maintenance and Street departments will also work to repair and resurface a section of Blue Avenue after underground sub-base settling occurred.

Sims said that project will result in the closure of Blue Avenue from Adair and McIntire avenues for at least two weeks.

"During the day we’ll have to have full closure because of the large equipment working in the tight quarters. Whenever it’s possible, after shift, after 3:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. We’ll try to re-open daily if at all possible," added Sims.

Sims said the Blue Avenue project will cost about $ 11,000 to complete and detours for both roads will be posted to direct drivers around the construction.
