Donations Needed for Back to School Programs

A Zanesville organization is asking for donations to help kids get ready to go back to school.

Eastside Community Ministry is collecting backpacks and supplies as part of its Tools For School program.  Co-chair Betsy Thomas said parents have been filling out applications all week.

"We try as hard as we can to match up the teacher lists," said Thomas.  "We get the actual lists from the schools and put those in our computer.  If we have a child who is in Zane Grey grade two, we’re trying as hard as we can to give them the supplies that the Zane Grey teacher wants them to have."

Thomas said it’s important for students to start the school year with everything they need, which is why parents also had the opportunity to register their children for the Lace Up For Kids fundraiser.

"The parents have a choice of getting a backpack, shoes or both," said Thomas.  "The Lace Up For Kids program provides shoes for the kids."

Registration for Tools For School and Lace Up For Kids will resume Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Eastside Community Ministry.  Thomas said there is a limit of 750 backpacks that will be distributed.  If you’re interested in donating items, school supplies can be dropped off at Eastside Community Ministry until August 2nd.  New pairs of children’s sneakers can be dropped off at any Wendy’s in Zanesville until the end of August.
