The year was 1987 and Buster Howe was a senior football player with the Blue Devils and he had offers from a number of major universities trying to recruit him to their campuses, but at the time little did he know he would win an award that would change the face of Ohio football forever.
Tonight the ZHS Quarterback Club held a dinner to honor the first ever Mr. Ohio Football winner at the Zanesville Cafetorioum. Howe who still resides in Zanesville was honored by his former coach Whit Parks, along with current Blue Devil Head Coach Chad Grandstaff for his accomplishments on the gridiron.
Howe was an all Ohio running back for the Blue Devils his senior year and earned a scholarship from Ohio State and then Head Coach John Cooper. Not only was he a great running back, but Howe also earned all conference honors as a corner, punter, and kicker for the blue and white. Howe thanked his teammates and everyone who was around him during the time to help him become successful.
