The score may not indicate it, but the Muskingum Valley All-Stars controlled their Licking County counterparts in the 31st annual clash between the two counties 20-3.
Muskingum Valley’s defense was a puzzle that Licking County couldn’t solve all night as the MVL boys were able to limit Licking County to just 93 total yards. Kole Buckley, Jared Dalton, and Dalton McGlaughlin all racked up sacks and Austin Craig forced a fumble on the defensive side of the ball. On offense, the spread attack by Bill Nutt’s Muskingum Valley squad confused and perplexed Licking County for much of the game.
Lead by game MVP Zanesville’s Wes Hudson, Muskingum Valley was able to rack up 302 yards of total offense, despite turning the ball over four times. Hudson ran for 77 yards and a touchdown while throwing for another 77 yards and an INT. He also got help from Rosecrans graduate Zack Hill, who ran for a touchdown and threw for another in the win. West Muskingum’s Shey Herd was also dynamic in the win, racking up 73 yards on the ground and 25 more on a touchdown reception.
With the win, Muskingum Valley takes a 17-14 lead over Licking County in the series.
