The slow economy isn’t keeping businesses from setting up shop in the "Y-Bridge" city.
Construction projects on Maple Avenue are keeping crews busy this summer.
Zanesville City Zoning Administrator Pat Denbow said he’s noticed a big increase in zoning applications over the last year.
"There seems to be a lot of construction going on that’s noticeable, everyone is doing their projects all at once, so it looks really good right now with a lot of work going on," said Denbow.
Along Maple Avenue, Denbow said Aldi’s grocery store is being remodeled both inside and out.
In addition, the franchise restaurant LongHorn Steakhouse has moved forward with construction and Frisch’s Big Boy is now set to begin building next to Tractor Supply Company.
Denbow touted other specialty stores close to Maple Avenue, including a doctor’s office complex being built behind Arby’s and an auto parts store that is going in next to McHugh Jeep.
"It’s certainly positive people or businesses are making investments in our community in a time where the economy is down, so i think it’s a good thing and it’s certainly beneficial for our area," added Denbow.
Denbow added that a Shoe Carnival has opened next to Kohl’s department store.
