A two-car accident sent one man to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
State Highway Patrol Trooper Todd Henry said Roger and Rebecca Smith of Zanesville were traveling eastbound on State Route 146, trying to turn left onto Marshall Hill Drive, when their SUV was rear-ended by a red pick-up truck.
Henry said the truck then swerved off the road and traveled down an embankment.
"Once he struck, I’m guessing he tried to swerve at the same time. Once contact was made he traveled down over the hill," said Henry.
The driver of the truck is identified as Ronald Hardesty Jr. of Gratiot.
He was transported to Genesis Good Samaritan hospital with unknown injuries.
Henry said Hardesty was cited for assured clear distance.
"You’ve got to maintain distance so that you don’t make contact with someone," added Henry.
Traffic was backed up for about a mile as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.
