Storm Cost Muskingum County $1 Million

The clean up continues from the June 29th severe storm that caused more than $1 million in damage in Muskingum County.

Crews worked to clear the debris that has been stored at the Muskingum County Fairgrounds.  Emergency Management Agency Director Bo Keck said about two acres of debris was collected at that location.

"We contracted with Luburgh Company to clean up this site," said Keck.  "They have a large tub grinder.  They put the debris in it and it grinds it.  We put it into a semi, and there’s another subcontractor that’s hauling it away in the semi."

Keck said his team started with the fairgrounds to ensure that the area would be ready for the county fair next month.  He said the cost to clean up the site exceeded $18,000.

"This is being paid for by the county commissioners," said Keck.  "It will also then be turned into FEMA as part of our cost for the overall debris."

Several debris dump locations are still open including the old Muskingum County Home site on Newark Road, the Perry Township Fire Department and Polk’s Scrap Iron.
