The animal shelter in Muskingum County is getting ready for its biggest fundraiser of the year.

The Ohio University/Zane State College Campus Center will host the annual benefit auction this weekend.  Board Member Holly Voltz said attendees will be able to bid on a variety of items.

"This year’s theme is "It’s A Small World After All", and it just brings it to home and how important it is for all of us to come together to help the animals here at the animal shelter," said Voltz.  "Whether you’re looking to adopt or if you just want to come out and show support because you’re an animal lover, this is a program that helps our community."

Voltz said the fundraiser is a great way to socialize with friends and support the shelter.  She said she has high hopes for this year’s auction.

"The community has really pulled together this year for us," said Voltz.  "We’ve got a lot of corporate sponsors.  There are more tables this year than we had last year.  We’ve already sold around 190 tickets, and there’s only 300 tickets to sell, so I think we’re going to have a great turnout this year."

The event will take place on Saturday at 5 p.m.  Tickets are still available for $25 each.  Voltz said the board is in the final stages of hiring a new executive director, but the decision is not expected to be announced at the auction.
