by Nichole Hannahs on August 21, 2012

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the death of an inmate with ties to Guernsey County.

Sergeant Mark Herren, from the Lebanon Post, said 37-year-old James Dunikowski, of Byesville, was found dead in his cell at the Lebanon Correctional Institution just after midnight on Friday.

He was alone at the time.

According to Guernsey County Court Records, Dunikowski was serving a life sentence with parole in 25 years, for the January 2011 death of Donald Kay at a Lake Seneca Resort Home.

He had plead guilty to one county of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated robbery.

Sergeant Herren said that no information into his death will be released until the Warren County Coroner completes the preliminary autopsy report.

The case remains open.
