The Animal Shelter in Muskingum County is looking toward the future after hiring a new director.

Jody Murray was announced as the Shelter’s Executive Director on Thursday. He has already started working with the shelter board to push the organization forward.

"We’ve had a lot of discussions with the Board and the Board’s been very involved in the operation at the shelter over the last couple of months. I think our biggest thing is to look at some short-term financial goals for us and develop a long-term plan financially that just continues to help the shelter grow," said Murray.

That includes getting the community more involved in the shelter through fundraising events or volunteering at the shelter itself.

"The community has also been very supportive financially and otherwise. With the economy right now it’s tough to expect small businesses and folks to give a lot more than they already are. So if you can’t give from your wallet but you can give of your time, we appreciate that very much as well," said Stephanie Hill, Shelter Board President.

In order to volunteer your time or donate items, stop by the shelter on Newark Road across from OU-Z.
